There is a certain feeling of accomplishment that someone experiences when they come up with something and it succeeds. It is possible to make your own slate place mats for your home. That makes it probable for you to come up with a unique design that may only be found in your home alone. Such an endeavor will be a welcome idea to people who love exceptional things. Making mats is not hard provided you have all the tools necessary to make them. Some of the apparatus that you will require are a marker, ruler, chisel, hammer and stone sealer. Before you start working, wear protective gear because slate is a type of stone and may chip as you work on it. The next thing you will need to do is to decide on the size and design of your mat. Once that is decided, using a marker draw your pattern on the slate stone carefully and cut with a chisel. For any sharp edges use both a hammer and stone filler to smooth. Avoid very thick slabs as they may not give you the desired outcome. Once the above steps are completed use a solvent based sealer to protect the slate place mats from absorbing water or oils.
